local roots, global reach.

Afro Yoga started in July 2017 with a donation based yoga class in the park inviting people of color to come practice  — when over 60 people showed up that day, we knew that Afro Yoga would not only become a powerful brand, but a movement that would change the wellness industry inside and out. And that’s exactly what we’ve been doing.

real people, reliable impact.

Kemetic yoga has been an indescribable help to me. It’s taught me the importance of the breath and mental clarity over the physical postures, and I truly feel an innate power that I can’t get from many other sources in my life. It’s allowed me to feel how much more important that internal growth is than the external.

Through your supportive words, movement and energy, I’ve been able to recognize the futility of exercising and yoga for the sake of altering my appearance. It’s provided me with tools to manage my anxiety, develop self compassion and feel connected to all beings.

Angie lights up a room with candor, wisdom and joy! She creates brave spaces for dialogue and self-inquiry which inspire action. Her knowledge, reliability, sincerity and care shine in every conversation and interaction. Angie is a trusted collaborator and teacher in my life.

— Christina Bakewell, North America Community Program Manager, lululemon

I want to first say thank you again. Since the DYT program, I’ve found myself journeying through the high and lows of business and learning intricately new definitions of balance between work, life, and passions. I go back to my notes regularly and am still in touch with everyone in my cohort - they are truly my vision sisters! You know you’re amazing, so really I just want to echo and affirm that, and add my appreciation for you and for the amazing work you are doing.

— Lorene Fischer, Decolonize Your Teaching Mentorship Graduate

Angie to me you're a channel and a powerful healer (from the angelic realm I suspect)!!!
More than all your amazing strategies and knowledge that you keep dropping on us, I stay inspired by the way that you're BEING in this world and that gives me encouragement to remember to BE first and lead from that pristine authentic place that I see you operate from (through the ups and down).

what we've done

Our Founder and CEO, Angie Franklin, has covered so much ground in the last 4 years. The short story: she teaches yoga and the business of yoga.

The long story: she’s held 40+ collaborations with local businesses, is a 3x lululemon ambassador having led racial equity trainings to their national leadership teams, mentored hundreds of aspiring wellness entrepreneurs, graduated over 163 people from her Afro Yoga Business School and launched an online yoga studio in the early era of the pandemic to support her global community.

Not to mention a podcast that has reached over 18,000 streams in just 3 seasons, countless interviews, TV features and print media coverage.

we're proud to say

Angie still offers bi-monthly donation based classes and continues to impact the wellness industry by redefining, reshaping and rebuilding what it means to be well. Everything she has learned over the years about brand building, serving marginalized communities, marketing, building revenue streams and developing authentic relationships, she has shared with her community.

Angie is an open book — she learns, shares and grows her brand in front of her audience in real time. Her community values her authenticity, candor and her innovative services and products that have truly transformed the lives of many BIPOC in the wellness industry.

She’s donated close to $10,000 in funding through her non-profit, Afro Yoga Community, providing scholarships for aspiring yoga teachers and with increased funding, will offer access to Afro Yoga business programs and wellness-focused employment opportunities.
